Membership Eligibility

 

All male descendants, adopted sons and step sons of members of The American Legion, and such male descendants of veterans who died in service during World War I, World War II, and Korean War, Vietnam War, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, and the Persian Gulf War, during the delimiting periods set forth in Article VI, Section 1, of the National Constitution of The American Legion, or who died subsequent to their honorable discharge from such service, shall be eligible for membership in The Sons of The American Legion.

 

Your sponsoring veteran must have served a minimum of 24hrs active duty during the following:

 

April 6, 1917 November 11, 1918

December 7, 1941 August 15, 1945 (Merchant Marines)

December 7, 1941 December 31, 1946

June 25, 1950 January 31, 1955

February 28, 1961 May 7, 1975

August 24, 1982 July 31, 1984

December 20, 1989 January 31, 1990

August 2, 1990 – cessation of hostilities as determined by U.S. Government

 

Required proof of eligibility:

 

If veteran is living:  A copy of their current American Legion Membership Card and DD-214 and Honorable Discharge

 

If veteran is deceased:  A copy of their DD-214 or Honorable Discharge
